Is there a way I can set my computer to go to DOS mode when I start it up?

    * The usual disclaimers about the following information apply. If this advice causes your computer to stop working it 'aint my fault! *

    In the C: root folder you should find a file called "msdos.sys". You should be able to open this file using a text editor, such as Notepad.

    When you have opened the file you should see the following line, under the "Options" heading:

    bootGUI=1

    Change this line to

    bootGUI=0

    and save the file. When you reboot your computer it should go directly to the DOS prompt. Typing "win" at the c:/ prompt will cause Windows to load.

    If you're squeamish about editing system files Microsoft provides a program called TweakUI which, amongst other things, gives you the option to boot into DOS.
