Should bands be considered as plural or singular? i.e. is it "Queen is great" or "Queen are great"?

The gramatically correct answer is that 'Queen IS great' (and it's true!) since there is only one band called Queen. However since most people, especially in the UK, would say 'Queen ARE great', this has become acceptable as well. I tend to say 'Queen ARE great' because most people do in this country and I find it awkward saying 'Queen IS great' for some reason...

Bands are collective nouns and the standard American practice is to use the singular verb.
