many reasons, such as the truth that there is something inside everyone that makes them do this. It's in your DNA and it's to procreate. 20/20 hindsight will say, why did I do that, it was so stupid. But the reality is that as animals we want to spread our seed and most all woman want to have babies. This call of the wild is very hard to overcome and that's what happens when you think with your genitals. It's human nature. Stupid yes, but natural. More education and availability of birth control devices without side effects would help.
