  • I absolutely think it's becoming a fashion thing. It's irritating. People should want to save the earth because it's the only place we have, not because it makes for good saying on tshirts. And it's absolutely a way for big business to market themselves, trying to appear eco-friendly and like they care about the world and it's people. *shrug* it may or may not be true of a corporation, but it presents them in a good light.
  • I think for some people it's a fad. You know, those people that don't shower and get all arrogant and look down on people who aren't vegans who walk 15 miles to work to save the environment. But I think people will start continue buying hybrid cars and those cool light bulbs that cut down on the electric bill because a) it'll save them money and b) people won't look down on them for driving a hybrid car.
  • Yes and yes.Global warming and Al Gore are a bunch of bullshit too.
  • You got that right! It's all a bunch a crap behind the man made global warming hoax.
  • Yeah It seems to be fashionable, but it doesn't bug me too much because at least people are aware. It's much better than anorexia being fashionable! I don't think it will go away, I think were dealing with the inevitable at this point. When I was in high school ten years ago they were saying "Where are we going to put all this garbage?" then it forgotten about, now it's all coming back again.
  • Going Green is not about using a T shirt or stop taking a shower or any such silly actions. Going Green is about compromising with the cause to save the endangered wildlife, stop ocean and river contamination, stop air pollution and stop forest depredation and do something about all environmental issues. It is about taking action, about compromising & about helping dedicated ORGs that put in their time and income to stop the above mentioned and more. If you wish to know what is going on right now regarding active campaigns and how activists, mostly high school kids and college students & others like myself are working real hard and for free, check the enclosed link. Argentina now has a new law to protect their forests which was obtained with much work and sacrifice and Greenpeace support and guidance. http://weblog.greenpeace.org/ DISCLAIMER: I am NOT requesting or soliciting signatures or donations I am solely informing on what Going Green is about. Regards.
  • Unfortunately it is becomig that way. But at least it is being brought to the attention of more and more people. We should recycle and reuse as much as possible.
  • Well Sara we almost live together. Same state that is. :) You know the culture here. It hasn't been this way for just a couple of years. I think the "Going Green" might slowing move into "Staying Green." California has been putting big demands on companies to go green. They are always adding laws with strict restrictions. It might work, or the companies might just move to Mexico.
  • yes it's fashionable and yes it's a good way for businesses to market themselves. But I agree with whoever said at least it makes people more aware and no i don't think it will pass it's a bandwagon the sooner everyone jumps on the better for us all
  • It is a big trend right now, but hopefully it doesn't pass in a few years. Most business knows that if they do something that people are in to, they will for sure get noticed. I hear on the radio about business anouncing, their trucks are running on bio-diesel.
  • I think for many people it is a fad, the latest thing for them to do. If they do something labeled for them "Green" they feel okay about all the other things they do that are not so green. But there have always been people, especially on the west coast of the USA that are more green orientated and live that way, but without the labels. I know many people in CA and Oregon who live off the grid and use solar and wind power, dry toilets, grow all their food, use a bike instead of car, that sort of thing. But most have been doing it since the 70s, not any new enlightenment.
  • If the human species is going to survice with any quality of life we can't afford not to go green. The question is how quickly we do it and how much of what's being done is simply, if possibly well intentioned, corporate promotion.
  • God, I hope so. I draw a parallel in between the "war on drugs" and "going green". It's just a means for the government to get an endless stream of money for a futile task.
  • I hope everyone keeps going green, I will. It bothers me to know that there are such simple ways to help this planet and people are just to lazy to do it.
  • While environmental conservation is a good thing, "Going Green" really has nothing to do with it. It's just a marketing gimmick so that companies can sell smaller packages for higher prices.
  • It's used to promote a lot of business, thats for certain. Personally, I think it will go out of fashion when the media let it die down for a while, and then some other big event will occur (eg another tsunami) and then it'll hype up again. It's a moral panic really that most advertising campaigns for products are feeding off.
  • Ask the Incredible Hulk!
  • I learned in my Fashion/merchandising class that the fashion industry is run by young people, specifically teens. People no longer respect elders, every one wants to look younger. So It is up to young people to pass this fad down generations to keep it going. Otherwise, a fad is a fad, and those only last a couple of months to only 1 or 2 years. However, like the other person said, the alternative fuel cars, the solar stuff, and those cool light bulbs will continue to be used until they are improved, simply because it saves money. So to answer the questions, yes going green is most likely a fad and it will pass and then, maybe, come back again. Also, of course it is a way for big bussinesses to market themselves! people feel good about themselves when they buy a product they think is helping the enviroment.
  • "Going Green" is not new, in fact, eco friendly companies and products have been around for many years. However, more people from younger generations have impacted government officials and formed their own "green companies." It's definitely a way for businesses to market themselves. More and more people are looking for green or eco friendly companies.
  • Going Green is made to save the environment, and uplift the state of Mother Earth. I do hope that everyone goes green.
