Basically, I think you're going to have to contact technical support for EA: http://thesims.ea.com/us/support/question1.html

I had this issue. It was all the patches and other downloaded stuff (legally paid for too) basically i re-loaded all my games and expansions and it now works fine. have you got enough memory?
-
You need more memory. My friend played the sims 2 and then after a couple of expansion packs her computer would crash allt he time. She had to buy a whole new computer to be able to run any more expnasion packs becasue her old computers memory was not enough to support the game. Hope this helps! :)

I have Windows Vista...it is not because of that. (80gb...I am sure you mean harddrive space. I have never heard of 80gb memory. 1 GB, 2GB, even 4GB, but I've not seen more than that....with Windows Vista...you really need at least 2GBs) if it isn't the memory, you will need to call EA's technical hotline....good luck with that(they are not fun!) I had to call them because my disc was saying something about using the original and not a back up. I actually had to download a patch for that. 'cause that disc was original. i've spent hundreds on those people! LOL. good luck getting the game to play.

You may just have a corrupted installation. Try erasing everything, and reinstalling it fresh.

I know this is old and probly fixed, but you may have to buy more memory, I have a Dell Desktop with 6 gb never heard of 80 gb being on a computer??? Plus I dont know much about computers. All I had to do was un-install the game and re-install it and now it works just fine. Except I cant see a fire when I have my sim light the fireplace but that unimportant.

It might not be the sims. It could just be your computer.
