  • Apparently not.
  • Seams obvious to me :-)
  • Seems obvious enough. People want to invent discrimination when they face none, it's common among the dominant group in society.
  • I personally think there are way too many words that people consider offensive, there gets to be more of them every day to do with every race, color, gender, group you name it and their is a word we should not use because someone will get offended. They are just words,no big deal, isn't that what we are supposed to teach our children?
  • It's not obvious. The part that is confusing is that people in the African American community use it themselves. So how is the line drawn on who can or cannot use the word? It should be all or nothing.
  • No, it is not obvious. As far as I can see, the word 'nigger' is just a corruption of the word 'negro' and is a simple, accurate description and not insulting in the slightest. Given that people do find the word offensive, I won't use it purely because it makes life simpler and keeps everyone happy. The only reason I can think for people finding it offensive is that it was over-used in a negative way in the past, but do we really want to let evil people dictate to us which words we can and cannot use? If anyone can tell me why the word is offensive, I would be most grateful to know, but I really think it was past attitudes that were the problem and the word itself was just an innocent by-stander caught in the cross-fire. Just to throw a spanner in the works - Shouldn't those who consider the word offensive be the ones who are labelled racist? After all, THEY are the ones who are implying that something is wrong!
  • In a way, it's not that obvious especially for non-Americans, because it's used to often - I mean, in many movies and TV shows, and even songs, the word is used..
  • I guess it isn't people try to always use the bs excuse of all blacks use the words when in fact not all black use it. People try to say rappers use it as if they are an accurate description of the black race no knock on rappers im just saying they aren't the only way people should view the black race. To me its just an unneccessary arguement people try to make to create an imginary double standards to flip themselves into victims so they can deflect whatever guilt, anxiety, anger, or whatever they feel when confronted with race in america
