  • I've never heard of any law in any state which forbids you from renting a room in your own house (you OWN the house, yes? If you're renting or leasing, you need to consult your agreement document).
  • I own the house. Country W has suggested renting a room to make additional money to help with the mortgage. But my town has stated that renting a room is not prohibited. The town clerk office representative did not sound convincing and could not direct me to information or documents that relate to this issue. What can I do next to determine the definitive answer to this question?
  • I'm renting out several bedrooms in my house and i just had a complaint filed with the city (philly). One of my crazy neighbors doesnt like the idea that I'm renting out bedrooms, although they each have their own rooms with a closet, window, etc. The guy at Licenses and Inspections said I should be in the clear because i live at the property and my friends occupy the rooms. It seems to be a very gray area. If i didnt live at the property, then it would have to be designated as a boarding house and i would be in violation if i didnt have a boarding license! Damn, with this economy, if i couldnt rent out rooms, I'd have to foreclose!!! Have you found anything else out??
