G'day Anonymous, Thank you for your question. Seventeen on the Billboard singles charts. He is still the record holder for the most number 1 US hits by a male artist. However, he probably had several more on the country charts and even one on the black charts. Elvis's estate claims that Don't Be Cruel and Hounddog should be counted as two number one hits rather than one. His last US number 1 was Suspicious Minds in 1969 which was also his biggest worldwide hit. I have attached sources for your reference. In the US, he had 18 (some sources will say 17 because two songs, "Hound Dog" and "Don't Be Cruel" were released together at the same time; however they both made it to #1 by themselves, so he really has 18). He is in second place for most #1 hits in the US, the first being the Beatles with 20. He's also tied with Mariah Carey with 18 #1's.
