  • No,my father is 85+ and can drive as good as he did when he was in his 20's.Up until last year his wife and him would drive about 1300 miles south to Florida each year, and back. Now they fly, but he still drives when in Florida and back home. The age of 65 is still young.
  • No. Most states have a standard driving exam, which is usually sufficient to show that someone, of WHATEVER age, is incapable of driving. BTW ... I turn 65 next month ( May ). : P
  • If they are still good drivers, why would it bother them to prove that they are? Personally, I think all states should require a driving test every time the license gets renewed, for ALL ages, if they don't already. I've seen some pretty scary drivers on the road in my lifetime, and not all of them were older people.
  • yes, Yes, YES!
  • No it should depend on their driving record. My dad is 88 and still driving well and he has never had an accident.
  • Yes. Just because a few older folks can drive as perfectly as they could when they were younger, doesn't mean all can. And a road test really shouldn't be to hard, if they really are capable drivers. But if they do that, I think everyone, at any age, should have to take a road test when they renew their driving license, just to make sure that their still capable drivers.
  • Yes! While there are many seniors that maintain their ability to drive well beyond their 60s, not all do. I think a road test would be a good idea. It would just be a minor inconvenience for those who are still able to drive, but would stop most of the dangerous elderly drivers from getting behind the wheel legally. Hell, to go even further, it would be a good idea for ALL drivers to have to retake their road test every 5-10 years, just to make sure they are still completely able to drive safely and properly.
  • Yes and ...... So far 50% of us agree, ALL drivers should be retested ..... Very good!
  • Retest everyone!
  • YES YES YES AND YES
  • Yes .... along with everybody else.
  • Yes..they should...
  • I don't want to sound agist but, from my experience of elderly drivers and their vehicles (I work at a ford, rover, MG & kia dealership) the most damaged vehicles tend to belong to the elderly which would suggest to me possibly they're not as good drivers as possibly they used to be. So yes I think they should have a retest, but I think there should be more regular road tests anyway. Just like MoTs judge if your vehicle is safe to be on the road they should have a driver equivalent. For all ages, but especially older or known dangerous drivers.
  • Not unless they fail 99% of the 16 through 30 year olds that take a road test!
  • No people under 30 should. It is a fact that older drivers are the safest and more alert drivers across the nation. Fact
  • Yes, I think they should. Often they do not decide to give up driving until something major has happened. I have noticed that a lot of elderly people's cars are often covered in small dents, marks and scratches which are probably done whilst parking, or taking their car out of the garage. This suggests that perhaps they have lots of minor incidents rather than major. After all, if they are ok to drive they will pass the test with flying colours.
  • No. It should depend on the person's driving record. If they have many accidents or lots of drivers call the police to complain, then the person should have to take the test. IT should happen on a case by case basis. To do otherwise is ageist. Many seniors can still drive safely. I think that a poor driver will be a poor driver at any age, whether they're 15, 65, or 35.
  • Sure, as long as there are also similar tests, like tracking you down on a Friday night when you've had a few drinks and forcing you to take a driver's test then... so that anyone who might not be 100% will be caught and lose their license.
  • Hell yeah I think so. Old people are very dangerous drivers many times, especially as more and more things go wrong with their health. At least they usually drive at slow speeds.
  • only if they cant see
  • 70 and over I think would be a good number, and every year after that. Not every four years. After age 75 I would like to see it restricted. No night driving and within so many miles radius from where they live.
  • 100% percent and those who are over 65 and say NO...know that they have a chance of failing
