  • You do not....they will explode!
  • Do not boil eggs in the microwave as pressure builds up and there are chances of the eggs exploding. http://www.telugutoranam.com/kitchen/index.php3?slide=egg_tips
  • You cannot cook an egg shell in the microwave but if you take off the shell put it in a bowl with glad warp sealed tight and then you can cook it.
  • Put eggs in microwave safe bowl with enough water to cover the eggs. Microwave on high until water begins to simmer/boil (10-15 minutes depending on microwave wattage and the volume of water in the bowl). Turn off microwave and place a plate over the bowl to hold in the heat. Leave covered bowl in microwave for 15-20 minutes. Don't skip the last step since the eggs will actually be cooking in the hot water while covered. This will make perfect hard boiled eggs without the greenish ring around the yolk. The eggs will not explode using this method.
  • Half fill a cup with water, then bring to the boil in microwave. Cover egg completely with alfoil making sure no shell is showing. Place egg in boiled water in cup and microwave on high for four minutes. Perfect every time.
  • answer 1 said "Cover egg completely with alfoil" What is ALFOIL?
  • Sounds too risky for me. I have gotten some good poached eggs using the micro, though. But, I used one of the "gadgets' you have seen advertised. Not the best, but better than I expected.
  • Ok everyone, I was also trying to figure out how to do this and after reading your answers and others I tried the following - 1) Boil the water (enough to cover the egg) in microwave and turn it off 2) Put the egg in and cover with a plate and leave for 17 minutes. 3) Take the eggs out and put them in cold water to cool them And it all works like a charm!! No green lining, no burst eggs, no time-bombs bursts.....The shell was a bit sticky but nothing out of ordinary.....Next I'll try boiling the water with eggs inside to see if they burst or not. Note: My apt is colder than usual so I also turned the microave for a few seconds (5-10) while the eggs were in there so that the water stays hot. Later on I'll exclude this as well.
  • normal microwave on power=10 -this should be the usual max 1 egg one tea-cup that will cover the egg water up to 3/4 of cup teacup's saucer plate -to reasonably cover teacup- time: attention time: 1.5 minutes waiting time: 5 minutes. •1-put teacup with -cold- water on microwave •heat until water boils -you can see this on m/w window- •wasting little time safely insert egg inside the cup so that it does not crack, then cover with saucer plate. •close microwave door and heat 7 seconds •let sit for 20 seconds •close microwave door and heat 7 seconds •let sit for 20 seconds •close microwave door and heat 7 seconds •let sit for 4 minutes done if you let it sit on cold water for longer, withdrawing the shell will be easier likely your first egg will not be perfect since conditions differ between what I did and what you will do. but this sequence works and if you are craving a quick boiled egg with salt or dijon mustard on it... try it. you can count to 20, trying to emulate the second count on the oven's time counter. this is near at sea level
  • NO YOU CAN NOT PUT ALUMINUM FOIL IN THE MICROWAVE! Please do not listen to that person unless you want to damage your machine or start a fire. Here's why. As its name implies, a microwave oven uses intense microwaves to heat and cook food. Like any electromagnetic wave, a microwave consists of electric and magnetic fields. When the strong microwaves produced by a microwave oven interact with a sheet of aluminum foil, their electric fields cause the mobile electrons in the foil to accumulate at the sheet's sharp, pointed tips. This build-up of electrons creates a strong electric field in the surrounding air. When the electric field becomes strong enough it causes free electrons in the air to accelerate and jar loose more electrons from gas molecules in the air, which then go on to jar even more electrons loose. This chain reaction creates an electrical charge in the air, which shows itself as sparks. Although rounded metal objects such as spoons are less likely to create sparks, the safest bet is to avoid putting any kind of metal in the microwave.
  • I boiled the eggs in Microwave with some portion out of water. I put the timer 22 mins. When i took the eggs out and tried to peel the shel, I saw brownish blotch on white part of eggs. When peeled it off, the egg exploded like a small bomb spoiling my Tee and hair...eh. The yellow yolk spilled all over the kitchen. A horrible experience. God my eyes missed the egg-bullet. Folks just don't try to boil eggs in Microwave, IT'S DANGEROUS!!!
  • OK, I have some questions and I am NOT a cook. In fact, I can't even boil water! :) If the egg(s) is in water, doesn't that adjust the temperature some so that the egg heats slower? I mean, when the egg is on the stove, in water from cold or added after boiling, it usually doesn't crack. Why should the heating method change the reaction to the heat? Isn't the boiling water the cooking method? As I read the post on foil in the microwave, I took it to be that the foil wrapped egg was in the water. I have also been told that you cannot use foil in the microwave, for the same reasons stated, but the water, again, has an effect on the process, right? The charge would be altered by the water, either dissapated or increased, so... Since I'm learning to cook, doesn't the heat of the water do the cooking here? If so, when the egg is removed from the heat source, if not cooled completely, wouldn't the sudden change in temp caused by a cold bath help in peeling the egg? Sorry, no answers, just questions. :)
  • I followed the directions to the "T" from the first submission. I was in a hurry and did not read any of the ones that follow. "MY BAD" The eggs smelt like boiled eggs! Peeled extremely easy! "BUT" had grey nasty looking liquid ooozing when I cut them in 1/2. I put them back in the container w/ a lid for 1 min and they blew the lid off. I had egg matter all over the inside. We r going to try to boil H2O 4 10-20 min next time and then put in the eggs for about 20 min. If they turn out I will write back w/ my success story. I appreciate all ideas. PEACE OUT, MADDY
  • why would you want to do that? sounds like a bad idea and not the healthiest of choices.
  • someone already gave this answer but so u don't have to take all day to get a boiled egg and wait as it cooks it hot water ...boil the water like 5 mins with micowave on high the put the egg in the water cover almost complete and then put 2 mins opening the micwave almost every 15 seconds close etc untill time up run under cold water peel and enjoy comes out great and cooked all the way too try it its does really ...
  • You mean how do you EXPLODE eggs in a microwave... Right?
  • I don't know really... but if you take the advice that says to boil water in the microwave FIRST, be -very- careful, as water can "hyper boil" in a microwave (look like it's not boiling, but immediately boils once the surface is broken) this is very dangerous, and can cause severe burns.
  • MICROWAVE COOKING with Carolyn Dodson HOME RECIPES COOKBOOKS FAQS ABOUT CAROLYN LINKS CONTACT US Microwaved Hard Boiled Egg This is an excellent way to prepare eggs for salads, etc. You won’t have to peel them either! Several eggs may be done at once, but they need to be rotated to cook evenly. Eggs take 45 seconds - 1 1/2 minutes per egg. A shorter time per egg is required when cooking several eggs. The reason for this is explained in "Dealing with Multiples" in Definitive Microwave Cookery II. 1 egg nonstick cooking spray Lightly spray small custard cup or other small microwave container. Crack egg into container. Piece egg yolk gently. Cover and cook on Medium power (50%) for 45 seconds-1 1/2 minutes. Check egg after 45 seconds, and finish cooking at 15 second intervals until egg is solid. Let stand and cool before slicing or chopping.
  • I've never hard boiled and egg in the microwave but I have microwaves a hard boiled egg. The results of the latter are much cooler, I'm sure. Just don't plan on eating the egg and be ready to clean up a huge mess. Also, be prepared for the door to your microwave to be blown open- I've seen that happen in severe cases.

  • DON'T!!!! I tried set at 5 min but at 2min 22 sec, I heard a blow. It sounded like a bomb. So I will just continue to boil eggs on the stove. This is an episode I won't forget. My heart is still beating fast.
  • I tried the egg in cup with aluminum foil. My first try was at at 4 minuets, I got a soft boiled egg. 2nd try @ 6 minuets, the egg was about 90% done just slightly runny in the yoke ( perfect as far as soft boiling goes.) I will continue to experiment with this method. It seems to me that as long as you can get your micro time correct, it works without explosion. (at least for me) As far as putting foil in the microwave, I believe that by having the egg and foil submerged in the water, any reaction between microwave energy and metal is shielded. I have tried other ways of attempting to microwave hard boiled eggs, and this one works better than most others that I have tried!! DISCLAIMER: This method, was solely my experience only!! Yours could be different! Be careful when trying anything new in the Microwave!!! Good luck!!
  • DON'T EVER DO THAT IS SUPER DANGEROUS. IT EXPLODED IN MY MOUTH DON'T DO IT PLEASE IT HAPPENED TODAY AND I AM HURTED
  • There are devices that boil eggs in the Microwave, some hold 4 eggs, some hold 6 egss, they have a tray for the eggs and you add water below, you can hard boil or soft boil, they do a good job, google: boil eggs for the suppliers.
  • MY SUGGESTION IS SIMPLE - DO NOT! This morning I decided to boil a dozen eggs and thought I was being clever to use the microwave which would turn off at 13 minutes (the time I chose from cold water)so I could go to another room and do other things. Lo and behold! I rinsed one in cold water, peeled it easily - so far so good - sprinkled some spice on it and put it in my mouth where it promptly exploded! I burned my upper lip and the sink was a mess but I think I dodged a potentially worse 'bullet' such as damaging my eyes. To complete my egg salad plans I stabbed each egg with a knife from a distance to be on the safe side. Fortunately I grow aloe vera, so we shall see what the rest of the day brings to this burn. It may be there are variations and wait times and so on but I would recommend using the good old reliable stove.
  • I was thinking about boiling an egg in the microwave after a small hole punched on top and trying to hold the egg upright. Before I do this experiment, I wanted to know if anyone tried. Comments please.
