You have a good point.
They usually are cheaper. However, the merchandise is sometimes made cheaper also and they are known for not paying their employees very well. Those factors allow them to sell cheaper!
Oh, sure, you are correct. In Chicago, despite a national minimum wage of like $6.25 or whatever, they wanted to enact a 'big box' minimum wage, basically saying if you're store is big enough, you will have to pay a minimum wage of like $17.00 or $18.00 an hour -- or simply put, a Wal-Mart minimum wage. Wal-Mart built all around the city's borders and Chicagoans then choose to leave the city limits and shop there. They never calculated how many square feet Starbucks or McDonalds takes up in there city. Way more than 1 Wal-Mart I'd guess.
