  • I lived in Alaska for a year and a half. Although I lived in the Southeast region (Ketchikan), where changes in daylight weren't nearly as extreme as up north, we experienced some of it to a far lesser degree. I had also visited farther north. I had not heard that Alaska had 30 days of night... Up in the regions farthest north, we would have about 23hrs/day of darkness in the winter, and 23hrs/day of light in the summer. People who lived there year round often suffered seasonal depression, due to the lack of sun in the winter months. Other than that, the darkness was treated as rainy days often are- by turning on the lights and continuing your daily routine.
