If you are determined to be a singer, and it's truly in your heart, then hire a vocal trainer and ask him/her what your potential is. Parents tend to stay on the safe side when it comes to their childrens professional goals, like an Accountant, a lawyer, a doctor.

Tape yourself on a tape recorder and listen for yourself. Do you think you sound good, and please don't think you are good like those American Idol auditioners.

And always have a backup job! Finish school, get a diploma/degree in something you are interested in, and pursue the singing career as a hobby.

You may not be a good singer, but if you are serious about pursueing this as a career, you may want to take some vocal lessons. The vocal instructor can tell you if you have potential.

Just do it. It's your life and your dream.

If your mom is running the band, listen to her. Otherwise take lessons. Try out and see where you get.

One tip which may help... My singing teacher kept telling me to open my mouth. Wider. until my jaw hurt. But I never could open my mouth wide enough to please him.

Years later I discovered what he meant. He really meant 'open your throat.' But how do you do it?

Remember the doctor uses a wooden stick to press your tongue down so he can see your throat? Use a mirror and practice moving your tongue (without using the stick!) so you can see your throat. Sticking it out doesn't work - you have to move it back and down. When you can see your throat your airways are open and it gives your voice a much deeper and richer sound. You can hear an enormous difference as your throat changes - choose the setting you like.

    And good luck singing.

    Perseverance & Determination, my darling.
If you want it bad enough, you'll do it to prove her wrong- but not just out of spite, you'll have done it for yourself.
I've been indirectly told that I won't make it, that it's too demanding, too high-calibur. And it is, but I want it badly enough. So I know I can do it. And you should, too. Just because someone tells you you're not good, or you'll never make it doesn't mean it's true. Try it out before you tell yourself you can't make it because so and so said so...

Show em' you won't be discouraged by them telling you you can't sing, or whatever else you want to do, not only singing. This applies to pretty much anythign and everything you want to do.

Well, if you can't sing very good I guess that isn't restricting you from becoming a singer. But I doubt you will make a living from being a singer if you aren't good at it. Look at it this way.

Could Neil Armstrong be a biker in the Tour De' France if he was a quadrapalegic? Erm... well i guess he could but you could tell he isnt gonna be winning any medals.

Do you want to be a singer professionally?
You must be pretty serious about this singing business. I've taken voice lessons and one of my close friends became a popstar in the philippines.. so let me give you some tips =) :

    1. Your mom might think she's being realistic, but I dont think it is wise to crush someones dreams or goals.
    2. Not everyone was born with an amazing voice but ALMOST everyone can learn to sing well.
    3. Consult a vocal coach. Take lessons. You can't become a truly great singer without it. (seriously it would be best to get professional lessons.)
    4. My friend didn't used to be a good singer but after years of practice and training she finally made it. Remember PRACTICE.
    5. Start small, sing for your friends. Have a mini-concert. Sing for parties. Sing for functions as the entertainment of the night. The more you actually use your talents and abilities the better you will become!
    6. If you want to become an entertainer, learn to dance well. IF you can sing and dance well you might be able to impress some talent scouts. Plus you put on a great show if you can sing and dance.
    7. Singing is great. In the end, just make sure you enjoy what you are doing. You can have a singing group just as a hobby even.

Hope these helped. Contact me if you need more info or even if you want some vocal resources (ebook-free vocal manual, mp3 voice lessons etc.)

    Hi!

What I would suggest you to create your profile on http://www.talentgroups.com and then create your own Music Group / Movie Group or you can join any other existing group to participate in movie making or music album. Once your group will become complete then you will be able to make your own movie or pop album.

How it works? Just check it out at http://www.talentgroups.com

    Hope this helps
