Help answer this question below.
Zombie invasion, obviously.
I used to work for 7-Eleven. There are times when you need to lock the door. During a power outage, for example, or during a natural disaster when the store is closed due to lack of utilities or evacuation order.
Lots of reasons, including:
l. They don't know who they might sell the building to.
2. Might be a bad weather evacuation or civil disturbance.
3. The police might order a lockdown because of a maniac loose.
4. The neighborhood might change and they might have to admit smaller numbers of people.
5. It's more expensive to buy custom-made external doors without locks.
6. The insurance company probably requires them.
7. If you've got 'em you can always decide not to use them, but if you haven't got 'em you can't decide TO use them. Kind of like carrying a concealed weapon. You can always decide not to use it if you're carrying one, but if you need one, it doesn't do any good locked in your trunk.
In case of evacuation because of an emergency or if the power goes off to keep from being robbed you have to lock the doors. (I was an asst. for 2 years) at least that was our protocol
For when the clerks either have to go outside - perhaps to take out the garbage or sweep - or if they have to use the restroom. Also, I've seen the doors locked when they are resetting the store.
Hehe.
Denny's Restaurants are also open 24/7/365. A few years ago, they announced they would close on Christmas day -- for the first time in about 40 years.
This presented a problem: in some restaurants, the locks had rusted shut long ago and locksmiths had to be called in advance of the big day!
All businesses are required to have locks. There are times when they do need to lock down, sometimes to do chores around the place and for things like emergencies.
If there is only one attendant so he/she can take a washroom break.
Well it must be the 366th day of the year.
When only one employee is working in the store he / she must lock the store to prevent theft. late at night they have to change the paper towels and trash bags by the filling stations.
I have no idea, what a good question!
Sometimes the clerk has to take a crap you know.
Yes, it's an ugly thought - but it does indeed happen I assure you.
Around here they lock the doors at night and serve through a hatch. And they also lock the door when the cash up. :)
Even more importantly, why is the word "abbreviation" so long, lol.
In case of a robbery, they can lock the doors. Or so that if they ever go out of business, the new owners won't have to install locks. And I think it would be tough to buy commercial doors for a building like that without pre-drilled lock holes.
I know mine is open 24/7, and the lock are electronic and are there to lock the doors while they are being robbed every other week or so. It makes the cops job easier, and the store actually recover the money then.
As a rule 7-11s are not open 24/7... they open at 7, close at 11, or that was their original plan... as for the locks on the door... even convenience store clerks need to pee....
maybe after a certain tine they have to buzz you in...
good point, I wonder why myself, now that you have mentioned it ! :)
Because they have a holiday every 4 years when there is 366 days (leap year) :o)
"So the robbers can lock the employees "IN"
just in case, they do...they have to have something....
When I was in Maui 2 years ago after the earthquake..all the doors were locked and you were taken into the 7-11 one or two at a time with a flashlight...I don't think it was legal to have the doors open.
so the criminals can lock them when they rob the store
Just incase there is an emergency and it needs to be closed. Or something happens nearby and the employee needs to lock the door for protection.
For the next tennant when 7/11 goes out of business??
The store that I work at is always open just like 7-11. On occasion the doors need to be locked like if we loose power or if your the only one there in the middle of the night and you need to take a dump.
The reason 7-11 has locks is infact incase of a robbery.
the clerks must lock the door then call the police.
just in case 'theres an emergancy '
Crime, cashing up, selling through a hatch in the evening.
There are many reasons why.
Also, this is a blatant duplicate question, -5
now that is a good point..
Clerks have to use the restroom to.
Why does the government tax people when they can simply print as much money as they wish anyway?
this has been asked SO many times
Better, why call it 7-11? Why not 7-365?
In case they get rob.
They may need to close occasionally to clean, or make/receive a cash deposit with a money courier.
because at one time they were only open from 7 to 11, hence the name
I worked at a few 7-11's over the years. The graveyard shift employees had keys. They worked alone, the keys were for bathroom breaks.
Inventory.
Do you have any funny or even better, insulting nicknames for family or friends? hehe

You're reading If a 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year, then why in the hell do they have locks on the doors?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:

So they can keep them in there until you get there, right?
