I have a year and a half old female cat and just adopted an 8 week male kitten today. Both are fixed. Kitten wants to play, female just wants to attack, hisses, meows crazily. How long will it take to adjust? I'm scared the female will hurt the new male.

Cats are like people in that their personalities are all different. If your two cats are going to get along, the female should being to get used to the kitten in a week or two. However, it's possible there'll always be conflict. I have an older female who swats and hisses at a younger male stary we brought in a year or two ago. They've struck an uneasy truce but you'll never see them hanging out together. Either wya, your female should at least mellow in the coming weeks. Good luck.

well depends on the cat but ussually about 6 months. The more you let them go at each other they will eventually leave each other alone.

The older cat will come round in the end just leave them to it but never leave them in the same room untill they are friends,my 5 year old cat was the same and after about 4 or 5 weeks he was fine it all depends on your older cat but it is rare that an older cat will attack a kitten.
