UCB is one of my favorite Blondie tunes and Eat to the Beat is my favorite Blondie album. Here are the lyrics with minimal chorus: Oh ho, oh ho, what are we gonna do? Union, union, union city blue. Tunnel to the other side. It becomes daylight. I say he's mine. Oh, power/passion plays a double hand. Union, union union city man. Oh ho, oh ho, what are we gonna do? Union, union, union city blue. Arrive, climb up four flights to the orange side. Rearrange my mind. In turquoise... Oh ho, oh ho, what are we gonna do? Union, union, union city blue. Basically I think the song is about how wanting to see beyond her immediate world leads to the beginning of enlightenment. This results in her empowerment and passion which leads to a perception altering experience. That journey is completed with her personalization of what she has experienced.

1) "Love this song, it brings back a lot of memories. I use to live in Union City. After school we'd hop on the PATH to NYC, usually The Village. Good Times. Those docks are long gone. It's now expensive condos and townhouses, restaurants and shopping all overlooking Manhatten. This was the standard artists' claim against the materialism of the 50's in which this story seems to be set. It's typical film student's protest against straight society's misplaced priorities in which the starving artist appears the hero, but is imaginative enough and with the right mix of humanity, suspense, plot twists and lingerie touching to make it pleasant to watch. And the ending is satisfying." "This movie does a great job of working this theme. And I do mean that the scene in which a beautiful young woman like Blondie, is neglected for the sake of a sip of milk is tragically moving. Boy some guys really know how to screw up." It's all about unions in the way that they can become controlling. The song makes referance to the the color orange which goes back to the orange societys of Ireland. A purer beginnings of what unions are supposed to be. After unions became americanized the colour orange gets blurred to create something else that means the original concept has become basterdized to breed corruption, hence "playing a double hand" which means that ulterior motives or hidden agendas are being done by those in power. No unions are bad, just some of those that are in control.
