If you are married to an illegal alien, in the US, that person can file for legal permanant residency and that shouldn't affect your ability to get a home loan unless their income is a determining factor. You might want to check out the "American Dream" grants available through your local HUD that are specifically for first time buyers and that provide a portion of the deposit needed to buy a home.

There are several ways to do this as long as you are a US citizen. My suggestion is to talk to a GOOD realtor and mortgage banker. You may be able to use spouces income to qualify, you may not need to depending on your credit score. Just make sure you go into a fixed rate loan. I would suggest a fully amortizing loan in most cases but there are times that an interest only where the rate will not adjust are the way to go.
