A split is a gymnastic and dance move in which one makes their legs parallel to one another, but perpendicular to their body. There are two forms: front splits, and side splits. The split is associated with hamstring, calf, and iliopsoas muscles of the legs. It is a popular spectacle in many cultures because of its requirements in flexibility. It is most often used at the end of a performance, because it is difficult to exit the position with grace.
