I took german in high school and college. Don't remember enough to save my life in Germany. Fortunatly they speak english better than I ever spoke german. Of course if you read some of my answers on AB and some of my spelling and grammer you would think I might not be a native english speaker!! LOL A writer I am not.

Well I moved to US when I was 13 so english was my second language, then in high school I took German for two years but didn't learn a thing, it's though to try to learn third language in your second language
-
Yes, my Spanish has gotten quite good, and i can wander about in German, French, Portuguese, Italian and am starting to learn Russian. Since they're all related, each one is a little easier than the one before. If you can, i suggest getting fairly comfortable in your second language and then starting on your third. Even if you study unrelated languages, each one you learn will improve your use of the ones you already know. I always urge learners to throw away their fears and to just go for it. Make all the mistakes you can and develop your sense of humor. Accept a new way of thinking and don't try to make everything fit the framework of English. Get to know the people who speak that language, 'taking them captive' whenever you can and speak with them a little bit, even asking them to teach you a new phrase. You'll be amazed at how easy it really is and how much fun you and they will have. I hope that others who have learned another language will share their tips and experiences. Being multilingual is like having a sixth sense. You'll wonder how you ever got along with only one language.
