  • It means that there is a star on the wrapper. That's all, no free pop, no free trip to Tootsieville. If you send the wrapper off to Tootsie headquarters, you might be totally ignored, you might get a form letter saying, basically, 'So, what?', you might get a cents off coupon for a box of Pops; it depends on how much they wanta spend on postage and such. Actually you are supposed to look for an indian shooting an arrow at the star, but it don't mean nuthin either. Even the Tootsie folks say they don't know what it really means or how it, or the rumour that it was good for a free pop, got started. When I was a kid in the days of small mom and pop stores, SOMETIMES, they would give a free pop for such a wrapper, depended on the store and how steady a customer you were. I do remember a similar pop, in that it was a round ball but no fudgy center, that did say right on the wrapper sumpin like 'You could win a free pop!' Inside the wrapper it would say, "Sorry try again," or "You win! Good for one free pop." Ya used it right at the bstore, didn't send it in. There was also a cardboard tube of really dried out Spanish pea-nuts, sometimes there was money in the tube. It said on the tube, " 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents, $1.00, $5.00,$10.00 have been found!" I won a quarter once. Even as a kid I realized it didn't say "...have been found in the tube." I don't know if they ever put $10 in one, but if anyone ever complained, they could say, ' All we said was $10 have been found, we're sure that somewhere some one has found $10, layin in the street for example." • It means nothing and is actually part of the random design including various childhood activities beside the indian costume such as playing marbles, going fishing, etc. The ages old myth of getting a free lollipop for having the star wrapper is just that, a myth. The wrappers are cut off large sheets and the odds of having this are as good as having any of the other activities shown on the wrappers.
  • i think its just something for the kids to look for and maybe eat more so they can get more money...thats about all even though they are good...a myth is just a myth .
  • The * (star) marks the spot!
