Perform CPR. If I am meant to die as a result of saving a life, so be it.

If I had my pocket mask with me ( I usually have it in my truck's first aid box or with my O2 kit on the barge), no brainer, I'd get at it. It's an effective barrier and I'd use it even with someone I know. Failing that, I'd still jury rig something out of plastic and get going. If you're interested, hit a local dive shop and ask for one, they're about 20 bucks and can also be hooked up to a portable O2 canister. They provide an effective transmission barrier for mouth to mouth and are easy and quick to deploy. Medics like them because they can be hooked up to O2 without missing a beat.

All you guys are out of date! It is no longer necessary to breathe for someone who's had cardiac arrest. It's been found that the chest compressions alone move enough air into and out of the lungs.
