  • Sorry, but simple possession is a criminal offense, which means you have a criminal record. A citation is an arrest. the only difference is you were not handcuffed and taken to jail. You must meet certain criteria in order qualify for a citation, in lieu of physical arrest. You do have a criminal record.

Background checks usually only include misdemeanors and felonies. A traffic ticket is usually an infraction.
