As far as my knowledge goes, it might be the stamp or the symbol of the manufacturer. These days, its a trend in the jewelry industry to print a stamp of the manufacturer for brand building and promotion.

It is indeed the makers mark. But jewelry makers have been marking their pieces since the beginning of the jewelry making business started. An old piece marked with the Tiffany brand is worth alot more than a no-name maker of the same year.
