  • Unfortunately, I don't think so. I was born a blonde and over the years my hair has gotten gradually darker, and darker. I think it just happens with some blondes. Also, if you color or highlight your hair, the chlorine can actually give your hair a green tint over time. Just something to keep in mind.
  • Absolutely. My old high school always kept the maximum "safe" amount in their pools because they were a school and figured that would be the safest thing to do. Now I can open my eyes in water so filthy i can't see my hand in front of my face, but that stuff hurt sooooo much that not only could i not open my eyes without searing pain for the next hour I also had to stop swimming for the day if I got it up my nose. If it got in your mouth you couldn't taste anything but bleach all day. Anyways. The point. My hair was already dark. But my wife went, in one school year, from very light brown to so dark that it couldn't be a natural occurrence. My sister went from a light blonde to a light brownish/blondish mix.
  • I cleaned pools for a living and have never heard of such a thing. It must be a myth. If anything, chlorine acts like bleach and lightens the hair.Hair is made of proteins and is dead.Something has to happen to the follicles for such a thing. I used to be blonde, but now have brown hair. I didn't swim very often and attribute it to my genes. In older pools that still have copper piping, your hair can turn green from the oxidization of the copper from the chlorine.
  • Most people who start out blonde go darker over the years. Nothing to do with swimming pools.
  • Hi..Jim is a retired Hair Stylist..the answer to your question is "no". It wouldn't go from lighter to darker..also, he wants to know if you still do this as it is not really good for your hair. He said your hair color might change to something lighter but once you stop swimming in chlorine-cleaned pools your hair will revert back to its natural color!
  • Swimming in this lake might.. and soon.
