    The biggest and worst is drity water the next one is limited space and a poor diet or diease.

    One factor is keeping him in a small aquarium, however, you can always put him in a pond for the summer (they grow at a quicker rate in large areas) and back in the aquarium for winter. You will most likely see a difference in growth : )

    I am going to step out there and say that cramped space is not what will stunt a goldfishes growth. It may slow it down a bit, but the old idea that a fish will only grow to the size of his tank is not true.

    Think of it this way. If you locked a baby in a closet when it's born, would that baby still grow to be a full sized adult? Of course it will.

    Same goes with any creature, animal, or human being. Genetics dictate size, not the area of your surroundings.

    Poor nutrition and quality of water may stunt growth.
