Help answer this question below.
I guess sex and bad times sell papers. I, personally would like to see happier stories and articles..but when you realize that the National Enquirer is the #1 seller then you realize that people want to hear about the bad times and the misfortunes of others...I find this a little disturbing and sad.
Imagine you are running late to work. Imagine on your way you see two newspapers. One says, "Murderer on the loose" and the other says, "Murderer put in jail". Which one, if any, will you stop to buy?
Chances are, you won't stop for the good news because you don't want to be late to work. You already know the murderer is in jail, that's good, you don't need to know anything else and you haven't bought the paper.
But you will stop for the bad news because if a murderer is on the loose then you need to know about it. No point trying to be early to work if you get murdered on the way, you need as much information as you can.
So bad news sells and good news doesn't. And when your stuff doesn't sell, you go bankrupt.
Want good news? Apparently in the finance world good news sells and bad news doesn't. We don't want to know who the 'idiots' are, we already know how to go broke, we want to know how to get rich. So we buy magazines that brag of success, in the hope of copying it.
Absolutely! Some local news shows have a light, funny clip at the end of their broadcasts. But I'd love to see more of it on national news. Too much gloom and doom...give us a glimmer of hope and maybe a smile!
Positive news? Is that even news at all? Think deeply about that
