  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish I wouldn't call them a cult because there is no one leader who profits from hurting/tricking the other members of the group.
  • Amish are indeed Christians and follow the bible more than any other religious group I am aware of. I live on the edge of an Amish community and shop at their grocery and do business with them and they are the most genuinely nice people I have ever met. They truly live by the bible and treat others as they want to be treated, Consider pride a sin and truly live their religion. Although I could never be Amish I admire them more than any other religious group I have encountered simply because they walk the walk WITHOUT the talk. They never try to convert anyone to their religion.
  • Whatever they are they appear to be as close to Godly as you can get. We can learn from them. Well some can.
  • Even the Amish have their bad sides. A couple years ago a girl ran away from an Amish community after being raped by her brother for years. She kept complaining, and he kept 'repenting' and then it would happen again. The Amish community was doing nothing to protect that girl, and when she had to flee, the community sided with her brother when he was arrested, because they believed that the community should have dealt with it, not the law. But they weren't dealing with it and it was an ongoing thing. I am not saying that all Amish communities believe like that, but if they do have that feeling that the law does not apply to them, then that, in my opinion, would almost be worthy of the label cult. I still don't like calling any religion a cult, but that's just a story that was very emotional to me. I didn't cry or anything, but it certainly effected my perception of the Amish.
