  • I think this might be a geographical question. Knowing you are from California (and I am from California, too), you probably know that we have the lowest percentage of smokers in the country. Before I moved to Vietnam, I had a job with the Marine Corps in 29 Palms. Now Marines smoke, although not as many as you would think. But in the (civilian) job I did, many of us who worked with the Marines were out of work Hollywood movie actors (extras). Out of these people, with a few rare exceptions, the only smokers were people who had worked as movie actors... whose role required them to smoke. A lot of these guys and gals would work one week in a movie and the following week at the Marine Base. You know, I should have written some statistics about this when I was working in the desert.
  • Maybe it's the whole Darwinism theory in action. And it's not a joke or being stupid, as I consider myself to be on the side of those who get pruned or weeded out by evolution.
  • Now, I'm not sure what the US counts as high school, but here high school is grades 7-10. College is 11-12. University is ... well, university. I'm pretty sure that at least half, if not over three quarters of the current grade 11s at my school smoke, and at least one quarter do drugs. So... a great percentage of people in college (here) smoke.
  • maybe they use their brains more
  • I have never heard of that. I'm sure the statistics probably vaguely suggest it.
  • because they live better lives financially. they can afford better health care, they live in better neighborhoods, and can afford healthier food, which is more expensive than junk food (includes both grocery foods rich with preservatives and other "bad stuff" along with actual junkfood). . makes perfect sense to me.
