  • To me, a marriage that has other people deciding who's going to be your spouse goes against one's personal freedom to choose. I don't see any discernable difference. I'd like to see some other answers here for a better understanding.
  • Now that I've read your comment to Baraluv I've edited my answer: I think most people have little or no real life involvement with arranged marriages so most of their perception of it comes from what they see dramatized or reported.
  • Either way, you dont make the choice for your own life, I dont see any difference.
  • I don't know. I have a colleague from Bangladesh and it's like he's shopping for a wife!!! Who wouldn't want that? He is choosing between three girls.
  • I think because they don't know the difference and make assumptions from what they see on TV or read about in stories. I don't think there is anything wrong with arranged marriage and have known a few people who have gotten married that way and they are very happy. They chose their partners, fell in love and looked forward to the wedding. It's more like finding a mate through a dating service but the ones doing the picking for you as to the potential mates, are your parents or guardians. If it's a loving caring family, they know you very well and take all sorts of things into consideration, things that the single person may not even think of being younger. It's not my style or custom but i think it works and is very effective with good results, not perfect, but workable and able to be happy and productive families:-)
  • If you don't see the difference, you are the one that is confused.
  • Well, I'm going to put it this way: I am so happy my boyfriend won't let his parents make him have an arranged marriage. There are people who actually do force their children to have an arranged marriage, even if the children tell their parents they don't want one.
  • I guess they don't see that forced is when u don't want to marry the person...and arranged you get to meet him/her and then decide...it's more like your choice.
