On every Motorola v180 I've owned, the screen turns black and unresponsive, yet is not broken because it works when you just turn on the phone. What's wrong?

I am an electrical enginnering graduate with a computer emphesis, and this was bugging me too. I had the same problem, and I knew it wasn't the display because of the way it would work when I first turned on the phone. My wife actually showed me the little button....that's where the problem lies.

my phone did that. it was the tiny button up by the crack where the phone flips open. It gets jammed and I had to wiggle it around to get it to work. Maybe that is your problem.
