Question

Help answer this question below.

My wife starts a sales job where she will be using her own car to go to customers. Other reps say they typically do 30-40k miles/yr. What would be the best car - reliability (lots of stop/n/go traffic, short drives), MPG, price? Real life experience pls!

Best proven car with good gas milege is a Honda. Hybred cars run cheaper, but haven't been out long enough to pass the relibality test. Toyota and ford focus would also be good bets.

What kind of schwag will she be taking with her on her sales calls? Does she need a wagon or an SUV?
Who is she selling to? (Sometimes, you don't want to drive up to some places in a foregin car.)
Will she use it to take customers to lunches and such? Does it have to be a four seater?

I would argue a Honda Civic would be a good choice. It is a highly reliable car that is relatively cheap to own and maintain. My wife had one for 250+K miles.
