No I wouldn't think any less of them. There are no perfect words in that situation and many people are just at a loss as to what they should say. Any expression of regret would be acceptable to me.

Of course not. Their job is to be there and support me through difficult times, and as long as that is completed... I see nothing wrong with it

Most people are very uncomfortable with death, and don't know what to say. Simply being there for comfort is enough.

People show support, or are comforting, in different ways. Quit picking on the person, I'm sure he/she meant well enough.

No, I wouldn't. They really have no need to apologize as they did nothing to contribute to that person's death (hopefully).

The fact that they are comforting me at all is plenty. People often don't know what to say when someone discloses the fact that a loved one has died. They aren't comfortable with the subject as there are many different beliefs about what happens to dead loved ones.

In fact, many people don't feel "I'm Sorry" is a very comforting sentiment at all.

No I would not. Some people (and I hope you're not one of them, never miss a chance to be offended. It's a hard way to live. Be thankful you have a friend to comfort you.
