Help answer this question below.
Any war the US has, now-a-days, is going to cost the lives of men whose age averages 21. And in attacks on the US (not just WTC/Pentagon, but before at embassies, etc.) we've lost that many and more.
Are we to ignore them, sit around and let them bring the war over here (ok... terrorist attacks), where children YOUNGER than the solders are killed in suicide bombings?
Are we to let them fly MORE planes into MORE buildings killing MORE people?
Are we to let them do as they please and kill Americans and allies all over the globe?
(Gawd! I hope I'm not talking to a conspiracy theorist hwo believes that all of those attacks were done by the US government to just justify the war...)
No. It should have been done with Bush Sr. At the point when we decided to act, we had no business there.
I wouldn't say it was an invasion - it was an operation to remove a despot. That said, it is always sad when young people are killed in these things and if war can be avoided, it's always best.
Given all the events eg. 9/11, I don't think the US and its allies had any choice but to go over to IRAQ and try to restore stability. The thing that is such a bummer is it will take years because terrorism is so entrenched in that neck of the woods.
The West is under severe threat from extremist militants and I don't believe pacifying them like the Allies tried to do with Hitler before WW2 will do any good.

You're reading Did you agree that the USA should invade Iraq 5years ago ? Now, would you have still agreed with this invasion going ahead if you knew it would cost at least 4,000 US Military lives, at an average of only 21years of age?

@Auzziegob = Ok... Let's just say that the REASON for the war was unjust/not right. The thing is we're THERE. We've deposed a despot. A large percentage (not the ones the media show, of course) WANT us to stay until the area is stablized. More and more of them are helping us. So, we pull out now, and Al Quaeda, Hezbolla(sp), Iran, Pakistan, and who knows who else will overrun the country (since WE are protecting them while training them), kill millions, and our leaving will leave the survivors of THAT mess hating us. From wanting us to stay and help to hating us.

This is EXACTLY what happened with bin Laden... We helped... We trained... Then when the fighting started in earnest, we pulled out. I don't know TOO many people/countries/etc. who WOULDN'T!
.
@theprofiler - I've never read the Koran. But from numerous websites on it, I have seen that MANY Muslims believe the extremists twist what WAS said to fit their needs/desires (which we KNOW happens... People have done that with the Bible for centuries.) Thanks for the backup! ;-)

"Are we to ignore them, sit around and let them bring the war over here..."
.
By "them" I assume you mean Iraqis. But they had nothing to do with any bombings of US people, property, military installations etc.
.
Should the US take their war to anyone and everyone to prevent any possible attack on the US?
by 23Skidoo on September 21st, 2008
By "them" I mean the terrorists, Al Qaeda, the extremists, etc. Right now, the majority are in the Middle East. If we leave, they will overrun Iraq and more, turning them against us (as if our leaving them in the lurch didn't), and then they will begin attacking us... Our bases, our embassies, our friends, there AND here. Isn't it better to keep them over there?
.
The majority of Iraqis are glad we did what we did. Of course, to keep it controversial, the news only shows those who DON'T want us over there. And very few news stories show the rebuilding we are doing there... Only the attacks on us, and the Iraqi people, and then, only show those who rail against us being there.
by BigDaddyBS on September 21st, 2008
So it doesn't bother you that the US invaded a country under false pretense?
.
Since, "...the majority are in the Middle East." should the US invade any country there it sees fit?
.
If the US hadn't invaded there would be no danger of the instability you mentioned. I was no friend of Saddam, but stability is one thing he knew how to maintain. That and electricity, infrastructure...
.
How do you know the majority of Iraqis are glad you invaded? Or about the rebuilding?
by 23Skidoo on September 21st, 2008
So it doesn't bother you that Saddam tortured, maimed and murdered anyone who spoke out against him in the name of "stability"?
.
The "false pretenses" were believed at the time. And I have NO DOUBT, that Saddam either buried or moved out of Iraq those reasons.
.
Should the US invade any country it sees fit? Nope... Never said that at all. My point is that it's done and over. There are no take-backs. So, we MUST stay until the area is stable again.
