It's in Hamburg Germany called the Miniatur Wunderland But there are some other large ones that are outside, like the one in Flemington, N.J that is privately owned.

If, in your opinion, a train is a train is a train, then the largest model train exhibit in the world is "Northlanz", with its 8 actual miles of HO track and 100+ trains running at one time. It is located in Flemington, NJ. Visit www.northlandz.com.

If realistic scenery and operation of trains is a requirement to you, then the largest HO railroad is the Pasadena Sierra Pacific Club, located in Pasadena, CA. Visit www.pmrrc.org.

The largest model railroad in the world is in Hamburg, Germany called Miniatur Wunderland which measures 16,00 square feet.

You didn't mention which scale you are interested in. The largest scale is caled the 7 inch scale and they have live steam locomotives that can haul people. They actually make all of their own parts to build these things. You will have to go on-line to find a club near you.
