  • I killed five of them Saturday. They live in climates where it doesn't freeze hard in the winter. They aren't aggressive, and they don't want you to find them. You have to look for the signs (the surest sign is a really tough web) and then look for the BWs. They like to live in the tops of the large trash barrels that city refuse services provide.
  • Yes, and for a brief moment they saw my sneaker sole up closer and personal.
  • Im pleased to say i havent and hopefully never will:-)
  • I was playing paintball once and I got pinned down behind a tree. I planted my hand on the ground to get my balance and I happened to place it right next to a black widow, which started inspecting my finger as if it were curious about this strange five headed monster invading its home. It then climbed on me so I panicked and shot it. I usually don't kill spiders, this was a strange case.
  • Yes we have them in our garage and yard from time to time. I am morbidly afraid of spiders, but I have a pest control service that I can count on.
  • G'day Littlebirrd, Thank you for your question. Luckily, they don't live in Australia although we have other venomous spiders in Australia such as the redback and funnelweb. I haven't had any encounters with either of those. However, a family picnic was disrupted by the arrival of a tiger snake. Regards
  • Twice so far, I live in the south never saw them before until now, one I found in a box I had in storage and another under the splash stones for the gutters. Threw that stupid stone across the yard to get her to move!
  • Yes ... in Penticton, B.C.
  • Only in zoos and science museums.
  • They are quite common here, so I have seen them pretty often. I have even been bitten once while digging in a box of clothes in my mom's shed, it ran up my arm and nailed me. It made me sick..but they are not usually fatal unless you are very young, very old or have other health problems. Kinda hurts, though.
  • Very up close and even bitten:-)
  • They live on my garage door and they keep coming back to my sliding glass door despite my attempts to persuade them to move.
  • i used to do HVAC in Nevada and would sometimes have to crawl under peoples homes to check out vents. I would come face to face with them all the time. You leave them alone they won't bother you.
  • I actually watched a female mate with a male (no shame, like cats). After they mated, the female ate the male and the male didn't fight back.
  • I have a crazy friend who keeps a pet black widow in a jar. She lets her out sometimes to play, sometimes letting her crawl up and down her arm. So, yeah, I've seen one up close. I hope I never see a brown recluse spider up close though. Those are the kind to be super afraid of.
  • Yes. I live in Western Australia.
  • Yes a dead one and i keep it in a jar
  • i have been very close to one. in fact i have taken pictures of them. very amazing up close. u should try it sometime
  • SCARY true story: When we lived in Tucson, Arizona they were a constant issue. Their webs are quite strong and sticky. Unmistakable. I rode my bicycle to the gas station to put air in my tires, since I hadn't ridden in a while. As I dismounted, I felt a web under the seat. I had ridden three blocks with a black widow under me!
  • :::shiver:::
  • No I haven't thankfully. I don't think they live in Minnesota.
  • I have not. I have seen her nasty friend, the brown recluse, up close and personal. To me it was a chilling event the first time. He was already way dead (lots and lots of raid pumping through his body) but it's scary to see them and know how close they are. I found 4, maybe 5, in the last apartment I lived in. I moved out of that place fast! Personally I am less afraid of the widow than the recluse because I'm in my late twenties, in good health, etc. so a widow bite will just floor me for a couple of cruddy days. Recluse, well, who knows how it would turn out? I am now among those who despise spiders.(:
  • yes i fences and doors
  • At the zoo behind glass.
  • http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/Latrodectus_hesperus_1.jpg I got a good look at the Baltimore Aquarium once too. Yuck.
  • Yes, lots and lots of them, one I even had on my hand (no, not as an idiotic stunt, it was more like an... accident), and I've been bitten once also. (This is coming from a teenage girl haha)
  • Yes, I see them often where I live, and no, thats not a good thing!
  • i think i was bitten by one! i didn't get a good look at it b/c i freak out n all, but it was a black spider and i felt sick for a couple days!
  • Yeah they use to hang around under the window of my house occassionally, and in the corner of the garage.
