Vulgate is actually the correct spelling in English as it turned out - I remembered mine from "versio vulgata". The question is actually more complex and does not have the 100% correct answer, since Vulgate is not technically the first translation.
Vulgate was an effort to replace the Vetus Latina, which is actually the earliest bible in Latin.
