  • Depending on what state you are in can change the answer. Most states have extra penalties for excessive speeds over 25 miles and hour over the speed limit. Some have very stiff penalties for excess of 100 miles per hour too. First offense may be voided if the law states that. They could add reckless driving and other infractions to the ticket to increase the fine. In addition, they may add additional points to your license above the normal ticket and perhaps even suspend it for the "over 100 mph".
  • The fine probably is only $ 500 or less. In California, there are also fees, added on top of the fine. If a Highway Patrol issued the ticket, there may be fees for that also. They should give you an itemized list of the fees, if you ask for one.
  • Pull out your yellow pages, call an attorney, and set up an appointment for a free consultation. He'll tell you what they can and can't do, and it's a d*mned sight more than just fine you for this kind of a "speeding" ticket. Take your drivers license, slap you in jail, fine you even more for additional charges you may not have listed in your posting. Not to mention what this is going to cost you in insurance premiums. Of course, there is a bright side to this. If they take your drivers license away, just think of all that money you'll save on gas at four dollars and up per gallon! You should be able to make your insurance premiums with all that savings by the time you get it back.
  • I know that t one time California automatically added contributions the the "Highway Patrol Retirement Fund" for every ticket they issued. It kept them on their toes. There also court fees and other fees depending on jurisdiction added. Trying to flee the officers got a friend of mine 1 year in county jail for his 2nd violation in excess of 100 mph. Whatever it is. It might be best just to pay it and drive slower in the future.
  • The "fine" probably is only $500 for the speeding, but there may be more violations on the ticket. It's hard to believe that you were stopped for going 100 mph and he only wrote you up for speeding. It could be that the rest is additional fees that are included as legal costs.
