  • Taking the ASVAB is something that can be done while you are still in school. Your physical is generally done after you enlist and report for duty. This is something to be worked out between you and your recruiter. My daughter took the ASVAB her senior year and went into the Coast Guard a full 8 months later.
  • It depends. If you are on a priority to get processed (called a "hot shot" when I was being processed at MEPS and usually done to meet a close shipping date), you sit for the ASVAB in the morning and get your physical after lunch. This assumes you already know what you want to do in the military and do not need additional counseling from a recruiter. Otherwise, you take the ASVAB on day 1 and get career choice counseling . Day 2 is for the physical in the morning and doing the paperwork and first swearing in during the afternoon.
