"A troll is someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages designed intentionally to annoy and antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion, including the personal attack of calling others trolls."

trolls are people who rate your answers down. and they do it because they don't have anything nice to say. or they don't like your answers.

I tend to apply troll to those that know little about a subject, but so lack a life they are trying to be somebody by being an internet expert. They use multiple identities in order to give their own answers high ratings and multiple low ratings to anybody that dares to point out how bad their answers are. Unfortunately, they run off many good people, both those coming for help, and those that can provide good answers.

I am new here and haven't seen much of it here yet. Not allowing anonymous ratings reduces the damage they will be able to do here. Perhaps I am misusing the term troll. If so, what would be a better term?

In some subject areas, good people will differ and should be a little tolerant of others, while clearly explaining their position.

I agree with nickworks and would like to add that they tend to not give a damn about the subject at hand, just about how much annoyance they can create.

A troll is someone who comes into a chatroom and not chat about or chat little about anything being discussed. They spend their time online attacking others, usually someone popular, hoping to provoke a reaction from that person and cause room disruption. They attack in form of calling others trolls and/or liars to get others to dislike that person or join in their attack. A troll exhibits this behavior to hide their jealousy and insecurity and make up for their lack of a real life of their own. And it is true, the best defense against a troll is to block or ignore them. Do not respond to them as it will only upset the room and feed the needs of the troll.

    YES to all the above.
    See link for extensive answer.

BTW- the veterans on this board hunt down trolls for fun. These people have REAL POWER.
They make sure trolls never advance in the ratings. Be nice. Give points. It's the AB way.

Trolls on AB are users that just make id's and go around rating people down just for the fun of it. We have the Anti-Troll-Club led by me. If you want to join, you just put Anti-Troll-Club member in your About Me part of your profile.

In J. R. R. Tolkien's world of Middle-earth, trolls are very large (around 9 feet tall) humanoids of poor intellect.

Trolls are the nasty little creatures which sneak around AB and intentionally rate down perfectly good questions and answers just for the fun of it.

P.S. I hear they eat human babies for breakfast...gross

Trolls are very arrogant. They act like Cubert Farnsworth from Futrama. They go on acting like they are a pro weight lifter, fighter, scholar.

A normal person would say "Well I think that Obama/Bush is a good president because of blah blah blah."

Troll "Why is every one supporting Obama, (I say Obama because trolls are never for Obama) Obama is a cultist, he is a communist, Any one who votes for him is shotting them selves in the foot. They are just kissing up to him.

I read this persons other questions and they didn't understand my answer to one of their questions (there question was too long so I didn't read it). I'v read this person's questions before and they are an idiot, they voted for Obama.

Why would you write a question about skate boards? Your probably just suck at scootering. I'v won hundreds of medals in the scooter Olympics, and the underground scooter octagon, and at various shady bars."
