Help answer this question below.

I bought a bag of sun-dried tomatoes. How can I soften them like the ones they sell in jars in oil? Just soaking them in oil hasn't worked.

    Hot water will work. Boil some water and submerge them in the water, just the barest amount of water needed, place something heavy on them to keep them under water. You can use the water for something too since it may get some of the tomato flavor in it. I do that a lot when I soak dried Chinese mushrooms.

    You can put them in really hot water or boil them for a couple of minutes. That usually works. Actually oil won;t work because the reason they are dried is becausethe water has been taken out. The water needs to be replaced, the heat makes it quicker. The won;t absorb the oil, it too viscous and fruits and such are water soluable, not oil soluable. Oil was a good idea though

    just a guess... try steaming them for a few minutes first... until a fork can get into them without too much pressure. The marinade will probably work after that.
