You should first figure out what you want from the whole college experience. Are you more concerned with getting a top-notch degree or is life experience equally important to you? Are the colleges well-respected for a particular subject? You could also check out some ex-students of both colleges and see what they have gone on to do after graduating. Also check with current students whether they are happy with the choice they made. You can never do too much research!

If you go to NYC for college, you better be ready for living in the "Big Apple". It can be a tough place to live. Upstate New York is totally different. Where in North Carolina? NC, NC State, Duke, and Wake Forest are all in the "Research Triangle" ( Raleigh area), I have been to both places and the quality of life is better there. Visit the schools with your parents, do your homework in advance. When you get there, study hard.

I am from North Carolina and I chose to go out of state for college, but I would probably recommend going to college in NC over NY. It depends on where you are considering in NC and NY and what type of setting you would prefer.
