  • Yes, there often are many natural indicators that conditions are right for a tornado, or that the arrival of one is imminent. You should know and heed these, because warnings by human technology sometimes fail or come too late. Be aware that NONE of these warning signs presages every tornado, nor does every tornado always have all--or even some--of these warning signs A very good link, especially if you live in tornado alley. • Having had one rumble by the house 20 years years back, I can tell you that they can come out of the blue, literally. Hail and strong winds, in our case, after a humid day, in the space of minutes the sky went black. They aren't kidding about the freight train noise, that was about 1 minute before it marched through our hay field. The house actually moved. There were no warnings on the radio or tv, just after the fact, for communities in it's path. It had already travelled a ground track of over 20 miles, virtually a straight line along a local highway. Edit: Ohh stabbed by a troll. I got a bad rate for recounting an actual first hand experience. No wonder I'm likeing Yahoo more and more.
  • Before I moved my old Science teacher said that one of the signs is first it's really hot then all of the sudden it goes really could, or the may be strong winds and hail when it's supposed to be a very hot day. If a tornado does come into your homelands then go into the basement or someplace under ground if there is no place to go under the go into the bathroom lay in the bathtub with a mattress over you because a bathtub and mattress are the heaviest objects in your house. If you are away from you home and are outside go find a ditch and lay in it if the torando comes over to your ditch it won't pick you up because a torando comes from the sky dowm to a certain height it can't extend itself.
  • The only one i have experienced included the following: out of the north came a sky with a color combination of purple, black and yellow. it was so intimidating, that my partner and i abandoned our police motorcycles and took shelter underneath the interstate, behind a concrete column. good thing we did. our motorcycles went airborn. The concrete columns held and prevented us from bodily injury. we had a real problem afterwards with the cleanup.
  • Green skies and it suddenly gets very calm. I have first-hand experience.

  • A tornado hit our block about two years ago. It was night time. What I noticed most was the incredible amount of lightening -- there was really alot of it. We were in the basement when it hit (it tore trees down and took the roof off of my deck. It didn't sound like a freight train but rather a loud swooshing noise. I think that tornado alley has moved over to the east. Everytime we turn around, we get tornado warnings. In the past 9 years, there have been three tornadoes that have hit my rural subdivision. And, there have been many tornadoes to hit nearby towns. One scary thing about tornadoes at night is that you can't necessarily see them. I'd just watch out if it is raining and there is alot ot lightening.
  • The signs change with each storm. many tornado's don't even touch the ground. You will experience several things but nothing is for certain. things I have personally witnessed as in signs. 1. a drop in temperature. 2. wind shift directions radically. 3. hail storms. 4. quietness 5. continuous rumble that seems to last minutes. 6. high pitch whistle almost deafening.
  • There may not be many visual signs before a tornado ...in fact, the tornado itself may be wrapped in rain and impossible to see. But if you are in a warned area and large hail begins to fall, you should assume a tornado is near. Also, you may see a "wall cloud" hanging down from the base of the parent thunderstorm. But you can't rely on either of these ...if you're under a tornado warning, get to a safe place as quickly as possible.
  • the signes of a tornado thats about to starts are ,strong winds, heavy hail, strong rain, green sky,and clock rotation clouds, also the most signe familiar for tornados are funnel clouds, if a funnel cloud dosnt touch the ground it is not a tornado, but if it dose touch down more then 15 minutes it is a tornado, and you will hear a rumbling sound.
