because thats something they see on tv nobody like to admit whats going on around the world until it effects there world then they sit up and take note
-
Because we are selfish and we ignore what is really going on around us because we believe that if we ignore it, it will go away. We are sorrounded by people that only care about tangibles , and we covet things that we see everyday bc its human nature.
-
everyone does...including yourself as you use your internet and computer and free time to ask this question. it's how society is, we get so busy trying to better our own lives and have more stuff we often forget about the people who have so little. Sometimes we remember and do a good dead or charitable act but then go back to our lives. The only way not to be that way would be to give all you have away and go live in a monestary or something

I am a part of it but it still bothers me when I see other people doing it. I don't say anything because I am doing it too. I think that it's okay to have gadgets and be happy about them as long as others needs are met first. I believe that if you do your part to help out, you will enjoy your gadgets more than if you don't do your part.
-
Because those other people don't matter to me, honestly. I live my life, they live theirs. Also, I'm not a socialist. I keep what I earn, because I earned it.
-
that's why i don't care about gadgets, i know people who do and it's annoying. We never really consider the fact that people are living like that... i guess we're just so selfish!
-
Society over the years has made us that way, and if those people living in shacks had been born and bred in a wealthier country they would no doubt be the same way as us..
-
Because we all live in our own little bubble. Most of us don't see the poverty that exists because we aren't directly subjected to it. We just drive our cars, drink our Starbucks and say "poor things' to those who suffer simply because many people simply make themselves believe that unless they see it, it doesn't exist.

These things are a part of our society, it's hard to escape the integration. Everyone has that, everyone wants this, it brings people together in a way-unfortunately. But they're part of our lives. I don't have a cellular phone or own a car, I don't even watch television, but I use the Internet and play video games-same thing really. It's also easy to say "aaaw poor poor people", from the safety and comfort of our own homes, but I'm pretty sure that out of all the people who say that, there is a very small minority that actually does give a damn. I don't think most people do, outside of wanting others to perceive them as warm hearted and caring individuals.

I think it's ok to want the better things in life and to enjoy it even though others are suffering. I think it's important to reach out in whatever way you can - whether it's buying fair trade or joining the peace corps. All of our lives are connected, and if we make sure to raise our children with that knowledge and love it could only reap rewards. It would be nice to have easier access to help others who are in need and to be able to see the results directly....
