I guess they want to provide as much information as possible to make it easier for us to form an opinion. That's the only reason I can think of anyway.

People will always ask and answer questions, concerning topics they are familiar with. If you were a dentist, you would be more prone to answer questions concerning denistry. the majority of people are not professional writers. they ask their questions, based on their association, with the question. and, sometimes this includes a part of their life. This is not a bad thing. communication, to each other, is whats important. I know, that if i had to repeat my life history, in order to ask a question on answerbag, there would be concerned readers, that would understand. We are all different. we all ask questions, the best we know how.

Here goes a story to answer a question, I do a lot of rescue work with animals, so if I can use a related experience to help me get my point across. I do several speaking events every year on animal cruelty and responsible pet ownership, and answering question on numerous sites related to animals. Many of the cases that end up here at my home are from abuse, neglect or uneducated pet owner. So pulling on my life story some times helps. (O:

I have no idea, other than perhaps it's a way of justifying what they are about to ask to seek an answer that is exactly what they want to hear, regardless of if it's right or not. I agree that it's not really pertinent to include details that don't have anything to do with the question at hand. If I ever start off a question in the scuba diving category with "I'm a diver....." shoot me and I mean it.

To help explain the situation they are asking about.
