  • it was the hardest thing i've ever done i checked myself into a detox hospital for a week, went to AA for 2 yrs and smoke pot. but if i can do it anyone can and i've been sober 3 yrs now
  • simple - put the can down.
  • Check out this pamphlet from AA: http://www.aa.org/en_is_aa_for_you.cfm?PageID=14 Give AA a call in your area and go to a couple of meetings. You don't have to talk, and it's free. They will pass a basket, but putting money in is not required.
  • One of the hardest things I've ever done. Still take pills that replace/reduce alcohol neurotransmitter damage. I've tapered these pills and almost quit benzos but I've been sober from alcohol for almost 2 years and the effects are still with me very much. I was lucky in that I had a private physician and support of family and was able to detox from a bad, bad habit under supervision and with basically anything I needed. Other scenarios: You can go to AA. I'm not going to say anything more about AA other than that. You can taper your alcohol intake (perhaps by 1/2 drink/every 2 days?) to the point where you are no longer physical dangers with going cold turkey. You CANNOT go from drinking more than, say, 7 or 8 drinks a day to 0 without serious medical effects, including seizures, death, etc. (probably not at the 7-8 drink level though) Then once you've tapered to one drink, you quit and hope for the best and you will need all the support you can get. Best of Luck
  • It depends upon how addicted to alcohol you are. If the addiction is not too great, the best way to get yourself to refrain is to publicly refuse a drink when offered one, and say you're working towards becoming a teetotaler. It may not be totally successful, but you will certainly find yourself consuming less with time.
  • Bartooder! Liften. I'm on no more, kay? No more. So no ma'er HOW mush I pleed, you say no, kay?
  • It varies from person to person. A strong-headed and self-disciplined man can stop all by himself. However, if you think you cannot stop on your own then you need professional help. Fortunately, there are many good alcohol recovery programs around the country that can help you get your life back on track.
