Inbreeding produces an unstable genetic line. Based on that, I fully disagree with this practice.

Other than that I really cannot judge them because I am not of their culture. They would look at our customs and find them equally distasteful. In my culture prearranged marriages are traditional and still practiced. America (Gadje America) finds such things distasteful.

    Who am I to judge?

It is their culture. I bet you even with that their divorce rates are lower than the United States'.

Regardless to where kids are, and how they live, marriage should not be pressed upon them at an early age. Marriage also gives permission for sex and an 11 and 10 year old are too young to think of sex.

They have their own culture. We can't judge them sitting away from them.

Well, I don't think the little couple actually live together as "man and wife" until they're older, but, regardless, I think it is super controlling to choose a child's life-partner at such a tender age. Apparently it is quite common for cousins to be wed to one another at tender ages in the muslim culture. It was explained to me years ago by a muslim convert mother that at least this way you know how your child's spouse has been raised and you certainly know the in-laws extremely well. I think it's a decidedly unhealthy system to have no choice in probably the most important decision of your life.

Ah well they're US allies so they must be ok, right?

Wanna take a guess why the girl in question has not been identified, let alone her views sought on this matter?

I couldn't care less. Really, is that any different or any worse than those Mormons who have like 20 wives or the Catholic priests who molest little boys? To each his own. Live and live. I'm sure no Muslim right now is wondering about any of those things I just pointed out

This is called "milka" which is uncomplete marriage. The purpose of it is that they know each other well. If they don't like each other, the "milka" is over and everyone goes his way. But I still find it wiered though, 11 and 10 years!! Most saudis get married between 18-25.

I'd say I've been living under a damn rock for these past 17 years of my life. I tried to convince myself that this world had only recently gone to hell- but no, it's been in hell for pretty much as long as Humans have existed.

With this knowledge, I will better be able to prepare myself for future events as disturbing as this one. However, I do agree with most of these other answers, in that it IS their culture, and we shouldn't meddle in their affairs.

I think they're gonna regret it later in life. And by later in life, I mean they're teens.

  • What kind of story description is this? What are the facts? This is a whole different society, one which we know little, if anything, about. Worry about the Latter Days in Colorado before you start pointing fingers that far away.
