My mechanic claims it's normal on newer cars to replace both the rotor and pads on disk brakes, due to the need for softer, non-asbestos pads. He says it is rare these days to turn down the rotors. 2004 Lexus RX330 owner.

    Well you can turn rotors...but new ones are pretty cheap. Myself I go with new rotors every time. They are thicker and have less chance of warping.
