Why doesn't the second cup of tea/coffee, never taste as good as the first?

My second cup of coffee is always better than the first. Must be that whatever happens in that time affects the taste, and taste is perceived by the taster? Interesting.

Because you aren't as in need of it as before, and you are more used to it.

For me the second never tastes as good as the first, because the first is my wake up tea. At other times of day I do not experience the same thing though.

it's "steeped" longer for tea, therefore a "stronger" taste. for coffee, i think it has to do with your taste buds getting "comfortable" and not being all like "OOH OOH!! THIS IS NEW AND EXCITING STUFF!!"

The first one is like coming home to a long lost friend. You've gotten used to it by the time you have the second.
