  • How about a 100-year moratorium on stupid questions?
  • No I don't. Let philosophy fend for itself.
  • Not even going into your ridiculous consequence, I don't agree with your premise. Science and technology have always progressed rapidly and philosophy and ethics always had to catch up. It'll always be that way.
  • Couldn't we just make all scientists become catholic priests and not breed?
  • You're kidding, right? You HAVE to be!

  • Some inventions like telephones and computers may not affect the nature around us. But there are a large number of other science inventions which are likely to cause disastrous consequences on ecology. It is ridiculous that scientists do not care for such things even though they claim to be scientifically minded, and need philosophers to point out such irrecoverable consequences. The entire humanity is going to suffer from ecological imbalance in the name of science. I have not heard of a scientist who speaks of the philosophy that this earth is our home and we have to save its enviromment from irrecoverable damage at any cost.
  • No, I don't agree. I feel philosophy is a way of explaining our current understanding of the world and as it changes philosophy changes too. Ethics are guidelines of how people should deal with things. And a lot of ethical issues are raised and discussed long before the situation comes to be--for example cloning of human beings. Many ethical decisions come after something has gone wrong and people see the consequences. If nothing changes or progresses in the world, then philosophy and ethics have nothing to respond to. As for the other humanities, I think technology and science have actually enhanced and added to them. The internet for example allows sharing on a scale that has not been seen before. Sorry, I for one am not willing to have society stagnate for 100 years.
  • Philosophy and ethics are entirely perception-based subjects. Generally, there is no right or wrong, its all relative, everything depends, etc etc. If science had to wait around for humanities to catch up with every progress made, i fear we'd still be waiting around for the developement of the wheel.
  • absolutly not, for one, who are you to declare the right to one's death? Second, I am one of those advancing science to such paces, I hope to develop hardware accelerated, and created artificial intelligence.
