HOWEVER, NSA, FBI, or MPAA/RIAA can get taps put on your service to view everything you can do. To complicate this further, while not monitoring all traffic, some ISPs record the websites you go to, create a profile of your surfing, and then sell this information to advertisers. There are some ISPs that record what you download through p2p services, and some even go as far as to block them (most notably comcast), however this is rather easy to find out whom is doing it, there are master lists floating around with this info on scene servers as well as wiki websites.

This information is then fed into the information network, and the retailers know exactly what to stock in your neighborhood. It's a service to you.
